The Texas summer sun broke through the boughs,
These piney woods who light would disallow
To tear through sylvan canopy and reach
And dare with it's good light the darkness breach.

What little breeze there is this summer day,
Is passed with whispered ease as treetops sway,
The oak and elm and pine whose underbrush
Cloak me and my mind's reflective hush.

From lowly silken fern to lofty arbor,
In soilitude my heart yet burns with ardor,
The nicks and scratches earned to reach this spot,
Through thickened patches yearning not forgot.

Upon my entry to this quiet place,
Three doe as sentries gazed upon my face,
Soundlessly agreed I wanted peace,
Bounded they through the forest crease.

I found an ideal home upon this stump,
Where I might sit alone, write out this slump.
I realize now it takes special talents
For all we see and are to stay in balance.

For would not even this place stay in dark?
Were it not for God's light its life spark,
Is not the earth at once both day and night?
And even half the moon reflecting bright?

We teeter all on good an bad's tightrope,
Wavering from despair and then to hope,
In ying and yang so too in give and take,
From sing to pangs Love lives and hearts do break.

Even in this place I am surround,
The lessons learned here too abound,
It's floor carpeted with angels breath,
Yet devils walking stick grows here in depth.

Some ancient trees long dead still they stand,
Their prideful fall refused so tall and grand,
The infintile stirrings of buds imbue,
That hope is determined to life renew.

Though first man so mistaken learned to sin,
We haven't been forsaken to evil within,
For in each heart there shines a light,
So long as we can Love the future's bright.

"Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve"

Well done.  Obviously the piney woods of East Texas have inspired you to a great height.  I thoroughly enjoyed the read and the thoughts.

Very deep thoughts, much enjoyed. I love the woods too, but the ocean creates more for me.
Interesting and well written poem.

..."it's floor carpeted with angel breath"...how lovely...
your words are proof you have been as one with the forces of nature you so aptly describe...recognizing that same quality in myself leaves me with a deep appreciation for this writing...this is a KEEPER!!!

The last line says it all, and love comes in so many forms, nature being one of them, and your love of nature is so evident in this poem, which is fantastic!  To the library it goes, however, I have no idea how to open that thing!

woods inspired this but it's too damn hot! Thanks.

Spitfire; Peace to you as well.

Fancy; This is one of the very few things I've written that I care for five minutes after writing it. Thank you.
