Love's Victim

In the hysteria of rescinded desire
my heart refuses to wake
it bleeds a beat of agony
a victim of Cupid's mistake

Begging of Venus compassion
to make peace with destiny,
even she cannot change God's will
or bring truth to my fantasy

Novel of unfinished love
cruel chapter on this earth
longing to caress your soul
aching for rebirth

Woe within this solitude
prisoner of relentless hell
taunted by lies of fairytales
sinking in sorrow's spell

'Neath the quicksand of the moon
poetry howls to the stars,
I close my eyes and find you there
lost in love's memoirs

On the edge of madness...
awaiting your return,
your kiss of promise seduces me
in the silence of nocturne

I drown my dreams with wash of weep
clinging to memory of charms
you are stolen by forever
awestruck within her arms

My soul is filled with breath of stale
held captive by fate's hand
trapped in love's purgatory
unending sorrow it commands

Melissa,

Sad, powerful and yes, even lovely.
