Deep in the heart

presumed innocent
tried by a jury of peers
to be found guilty
beyond a shadow of doubt
I have never been her peer

she was arrested
police do not jail the good
she must be guilty
I admit I have my doubts
but I must get home by four

Ouch!  I once served on a jury and understand where you're coming from.

Too much truth in this...for comfort.

and it says quite a lot about many of our attitudes in general...

always a pleasure...

It is uncool in our society to have the time to be a juror. People seem to find humor in creative excuses not to do their civic duty. Some even will present a hostile attitude, out of character, stating false beliefs if they think it will exclude them. Funny as hell until they are accused of a crime, then the retiree with an ax to grind, or bored housewife or ne'er do well serves as a peer and trust that they will find that "pool" lacking compassionate waters.
