Softly falls the rain, gently clinging
Leaves trembling slightly to the touch.
Footsteps echoing down the silent street
Streetlights glowing in a halo of mist

Your face appears and recedes in the soft glow
Different angles, changing expressions
Laughter that now mocks with its silvery tones
Knowing the sound is not meant for me

Yet your face continues to haunt me
With dreams of yesteryear, unbidden but there
The moisture on my face, not entirely cloud borne
Hidden from sight, but not from the soul

Leave me will-o-wisp, leave my thoughts in peace
Disappear back into the misty world where you hid
Locked in memories past where I thought you kept
Set my soul free to love again with tenderness

Like a clap of thunder, the thought came to me
That was the past, that was yesterday, not the NOW
The NOW is where I live, tomorrow will yet be
Maybe, just maybe I can live and love again.

I wish you love. A very gentle poem indeed.

Doing it again, Logan, reading my thoughts. You speak this with a knowledge born of pain.
Excellent write.

Oh I think you will and the experience will help you process it all in your poetic mind....good poem!

The role of poetry is to utter the un-utterable; to open up
spaces of consciousness and resistance; to language oppressions; to
re-language historie
