Stones piled one
On one
Stacked in careful
Order
No mortar holds
In place
This wall built so
Long ago
It is the weight
Of each
Stone and stone
Atop
That keeps one from
Falling

I love stone walls.... where I live if you drive just a ways out of the city there are parts of stone walls still standing from days gone by... made of our native stones
Beautiful

Perfectly said, truthfully rendered.  I'm sure there's a perfect metaphor here if I could think of the kind of 'mortar' that holds people with similar problems together, binding them into a common strength.  Aha! Perhaps I've just done it.

The very basis of the stone walls in Ireland.
Enjoyed the deeper meaning, too.
Well done, as usual.

RMW... frost would be the master and I am just a hack. Thanks for the good words.

Sunshine... a foundation or a prison could be anything couldn't it?

Zinsser... I too love stone walls and am glad you enjoyed.

VAS... You;ll think of that metaphor...I have no doubt. Thanks for the comment

Sudhir Iyer...Thank you. You are far too kind

Alicethruglass .. Thank You

Interloper ... Thanks for the comment and thanks for looking below the surface

1slick_lady ... You get the booby prize... it is the same stones which we use to protect ourselves that also deny us the ability to get out. The weight of all those stones hold each other in place... Thanks very much for the comment... it is always nice to see someone relate to your words the same way you felt when you wrote them
