The gentleness of the heart
Can only be measured
Proportionally to the amount
Of love given unconditionally.

The quality of love
Can only be felt
When there are no demands
Or changing of what you be.

The soul can only sing
When the melody played
Is strummed on the strings
Of a giving love

Two souls joined
Can only be done
When all is given free
With total honesty.

To stay together
Is give and take
Growing and sharing
Past life’s mistakes.

So let love flow, gentle souls
Let the fires build embers deep
Of  kind words and tender smiles
Is such is done, then love you will keep

Well, I often wonder if that really is possible.  I feel you hit the nail on the head with "no demands and attempts to change the other".  Very very hard to do.  We all do strive though, don't we?
Nice one, Logan!   This is what love should be.   I've struggled with that definition and you wrote it beautifully.

Not only to say the right thing in the right place, but far more difficult, to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.

Lovely, lovely, quite a contrast to what I just posted.  A good one for me to read, considering I was wondering why I wrote such a piece as I did this morning, when I really do believe there is such a thing as unconditonal love beyond the love of a puppy.

But what if you do all that, it it still doesn't work
This is a beatiful rendition of how things are when you find the right person, but why is it so hard to achieve?  Sorry, depressed person replying here..
Love the poem, as always.

Your words contain a simple honesty of what's needed for a lifetime love - something I've found unattainable. *S* This is beautiful!

Tovi, gentle smile, yes we can only strive, but both have to want to, and that is what makes the difference, I feel

Marge, I am glad you did like it, just kinna a musing on my part of looking back...gentle smile

Poeminister, your comments are always valuable to me, thank you for the read...gentle smile

Vanada, I am glad you enjoyed. Thank you for reading and the comment..gentle smile

Lady, the only way I give anything, is always uncondtionally. Thank you for the read.  I tried that, only came back as a junk yard dog, sigh...gentle smile

Trust me, VAS, there is, the key is in not expecting anything in return, but this HAS to be on a higher plane, as you shouldn't become a doormat either...gentle smile

Sudhir, thank you for your comments. I am honored that you read and replied...gentle smile

Ahh, Sandra, gentle smile, I never said it was ever easy. The right one will have to be responding in a like manner for it all to work, but I believe in being an optimist. I have had too many disappointments in life not to have become one...gentle smile

illusion, gentle smile, sometimes you will find when you have wanted to stop seeking. Thank you for reading and good luck

Ahhh, Cor, my dearest friend, then I am glad I wrote it then...very gentle smile

Connie, gentle smile, of course it is the hard part. I have never found life to be easy. Thank you for being here
