         The Old and The New

(This is written for someone who once was very special)

When we first met, our love was so very sweet
excitement danced in the sky and in our feet.
We met on a blind date, atop the Ferris Wheel we
    flew
I fell in love with your very sensual eyes of blue.

Our heart beat as one on our wedding day,
as a perfect pair, we pledged our love,
     what more can I say......

This was the old you, the one I adored.
I gave you my heart, soul and my life.
      I really cared.

I never cheated on you nor did I ever want to...
Then you changed, the "new you" came into being.
You tried to hide it, like I wasn't aware
      of what was happening.
You cheated behind my back - lies and hurt -
the pain in my chest felt like a heart attack.
You broke me in half and told me to leave.
Did you not see the torture I did feel?

The "old you" I might take back in a flash.
The "new you" could care less if I lived, died,
            or just crashed.

I cannot live in the past with hopes of
      everything changing.
I sit by the phone every lonely night and pray
you would call - the phone is not ringing.

So, the "new you" has taken over -
the "old you" is gone forever.
It is so very hard to forgive and forget.
I pray every night for peace of mind for
       us both with no regret.

Cpat Hair:  Ouch is correct and yes, it is a painful message.  Thank you for your comments.  I appreciate your kind words.

...how I feel your pain...I have been standing where you are now, and you certainly are aiming for the right direction...betrayal at it's worse is a killer...the kind of death that still lets us live on...peace to you my friend...while in the valley, look up and see the mountain tops...there is even beauty from there...time only heals these kinds of wounds, but the sun will shine on you again...keep the faith...

It's funny how the emotions seem to be on a roller coaster while experiencing situations like this...I went thru a similar experience and my mind flip flopped...first I wanted her back and then I didn't and then I did and then I didn't...you get the idea...
I thought things like well I must have treated her badly so it is my fault she is doing this...I thought I still loved her no matter what...I thought deep in her heart she still loved me and she would soon realize it...and then I thought why do I want someone to be with me that doesn't really want to be with me...for whatever reason...and that was the thought I needed to began to let go...off course all these thoughts take months to resolve...James
