To You I’m Just a Dandelion
to the rhythm of If I Were a Butterfly
Virginia Salter

If I were a clinging vine
I’d sing a song to make you mine
If I were a climbing rose
I’d wind around and please your nose

To you I’m just a dandelion
in your lush green lawn
You’ve no need for me at all
I’m just a weed that riles your gall

All I see is your backside
to save my heart, I let it slide
walk away with my head bowed
to hide my tears within the crowd

To you I’m just some old rag weed
someone to spurn, cuz you don’t need
anyone to be your friend
to stick by you until the end

But some day, you’ll surely know
being alone’s just gotta go
you’ll look around and seek to see
someone to care, someone like me

Too late’s come and gone by then
you’ll sit around and wonder when
someone will come to be with you
someone that’s sweet to love you true

You’ll look for a sunshine face
that’s left your sight without a trace
and all alone you’ll truly be
no one will come, not even me

For being scorned has hurt too long
there’s a limit to remaining strong
you will find it’s way too late
to find me clinging to the garden gate.

So if you fancy me at all
better hang your hoe on the old barn wall
swallow your pride, your big ego
and let my lovin’ charm your soul.

Vas..
running in the same vein, we truly are...how beautifully written...the thoughts themselves I would have claimed for mine alone...

Excellent and innovative. Is there something, perhaps to be said of Dandelion wine? Just a thought.
