~* Happy Father's Day Mom! *~

Here it is Father’s Day again,
And this day always brings to mind,
The teasing that children did to my son,
Taunting him and being so unkind.

When Father’s Day came around,
At Boy Scouts or at school,
They would always make fun of him,
And try to make him feel the fool.

Some man would always substitute,
Whenever it called for a father and son,
See, I was another, single working Mom,
Divorced, and working two jobs just for fun!

No support, called for long hours,
And every single penny I made was spent,
Keeping my son busy with activities,
And just covering the heat and rent.

I figured if I kept him busy
And got him into things with men,
Being around a woman most of the time,
Wouldn’t hurt now and again.

But kids always made fun of him,
Until one day he made me so proud.
It was at a father and son picnic,
Amongst a great, big crowd.

The three-legged race was announced,
And it was for fathers and sons.
He said, “Come on Mom let’s enter”,
“Trust me, it will be so much fun!”

I didn’t know how to disappoint him,
So off to the gate we went,
But a leader at camp stopped us,
For fathers and sons the race was meant.

I have never been as proud as that day,
He looked at me, and I could tell he was sad.
Wiping a tear, he said to the camp leader,
“Well, this here lady is my Dad!”

She does all the things those Dads do,
And she can fish, and throw a ball,
Just because her name isn’t Dad,
Doesn’t mean she isn’t one at all.

She told me when my Dad went away,
She was now my Daddy too,
So don’t be so mean to her okay?
We just want to enter the race us two.

Well we entered that darn old race,
And we were laughing and having fun,
It wasn’t until everyone started cheering,
That we realized that race we had won.

So to all the single Moms out there,
Happy Father’s Day to each of you,
And I know you do a fantastic job,
God bless you for being both parents too.

To All The Single Moms Out There
~*~ Happy Father's Day ~*~

This is refreshingly different. You are absolutely correct: aproximately 51% of all marriages end in divorce leaving the mother to struggle to pay the heat and the rent. On father's day, we should honor all men and women who do the jobs of two people. Perhaps men will begin to take their jobs within the family more seriously. I don't know: but they certainly should.

"I am not now that which I have been."

I haven't posted anything on these forums for months... although I do read through a lot.  But I was driven to comment on this peice.

I am in tears right now. For so long, I've been dreading this day. My daughter is now 5 months old and without a father figure in her life. I haven't seen her father since he broke it off with me when I found out I was pregnant.  I've been so sad because my daughter will probably never have a father in her life. And I never stop to think that maybe she doesnt need one...that we can be just fine on our own.

Reading this made me smile. You're right... it's not just fathers day, it's Fathers day for moms, too.  Thank you for posting this... it really deeply effected me.

And happy fathers day to you, too

Sorrow'sMistress: Can I tell you something, sometimes it is better for a child to have one GOOD parent than two bad ones!  That was my choice, and I never regretted it.  My son never suffered, is a CEO of a huge company, and still gives me a Father's Day card every single year although he is now a Dad himself.  Please don't ever think you are not doing a good job, and your wee one will suffer.  It is always nice to have "the Clevers" but sometimes it just does not happen, and that is okay too! Happy Father's Day to you MOM! (Hugs)

Mother Earth - I am one parent in millions that put their children first, and single parents seem to just try really hard to compensate for doing the job of two, and I thank you kindly as yes I did raise one fine, man, and I am so proud of him to this day!

Sharon...this was so beautiful and touching.  I grew up with a wonderful dad...and I honor him on this day for all that he was to everyone who knew and loved him, yet, at the same time, I raised my oldest daughter, my stepdaugther, and my youngest daughter...without any assistance whatsoever.  Courtney did not even see her dad until she was eight years old.  Thus the reason that this touched my heart so tenderly.  No offense to the dad's out there who do take an active role in raising their children...I salute and respect you.
But for those of us left to raise our kids alone, this was exactly on target!
Hugs and much love to you, always, Dawn, Casey, and Courtney.....

dgVarner: Give yourself some credit and also some slack, it just happens - you will be there and also be a better Father, you watch!  And...they remember it when they are grown too (with love)!

Sven: I had both parents and none really, so better one good one, than two bad, nice you think highly of that hard-working Mom of yours.  Thanks for reading this.
