Dear Dad,

You will never see her face
Or know warmth of her embrace
For you were taken from this earth
Before the hour of her birth

This child will never know how dear
The things you’d whisper in her ear
Nor will the wonder in her eyes
Incite a tale that you devise

But Dad, I promise this to you
The grandfather she never knew
Will be a very special part
Of love within her tender heart

The deeds you did, as thoughts unfold
Will be the nightime stories told
Your words, your wisdom, charming laugh
Will don each album photograph

You lived a life that’s full and good
In all your days of fatherhood
The best you gave was of yourself
Your love of life and life itself

Your honest ways, your love for me
A lifetime lived in dignity
A heritage so rich in pride
Is passed to someone by my side

So here she is, a little girl
With puffy sleeves and twisted curl
And dimpled finger pointing to
My favorite photograph of you

On Father’s Day, the memories flow
And in my daughters eyes they glow
As I repeat your name and face
She holds your portrait in embrace

Speaking as a Dad, this is a most warming, and gentle tribute to one you loved, and is most apparent, loved you...well done, gentle soul...gentle smile

Elizabeth,

oh my words could not do this
tribute justice. this has got
to be one of the most beautiful
father's day tributes i've ever
laid eyes upon. i know how hard it
is to lose someone so dear to you...
but you've taken a painful situation
and made the best of it by sharing
your dad with your child in memories
and pictures. know that he sits in
heaven with a grin upon his face and
a smile in his heart just for YOU.
truly beautiful work!! '

take care.

Beautiful tribute to your Father, he would be proud of your poetry and the fact that you share your love for him with your little one in memories.

Aw, you got me here.  This was so tender and full of love.  She'll know because he lives through YOU.  Fabulous write, Liz.

Beautifully penned by an accomplished poet. Just a wonderful read.

Elizabeth this is an excellent tribute! It's truly sad when a child doesn't get to know a parent or grandparent....This sadness is beautifully expressed here in this poem of yours but with a positive overtone that makes the writing complete.....very loving write!

Beautiful Liz ... simply priceless. To cherish so warmly the memories of those in our hearts and share them with others ... a wonderful legacy and testament of their lives. You tugged my heart indeed with this lovely poem.

Best wishes,
/Kit

You have a heart as big as a whale.
