Knowing You

You can’t scold me anymore,
as a father might,
or preach as my high priest.

I can’t say I’ll miss your spells
of depression beyond cause;
or your tendency to parley over my head,
aiming low for the arrow of my intellect.

No more theatrical masks donned,
swapping tragedy for comedy,
expecting a laugh.

Gone are arguments that left a hollow
where solidarity should have shown,
no posture of worship, except my own,
at least love should have been hallowed.

I conjure every ignoble moment,
sunless, silent days of retreat,
icy nights of aberration,
expectations laid flat
in the black-and-white death
without reason.

When I’ve put all thoughts of you
well into past tense,
a memory unveils,
without pretense,
of a man who gave without bounds.

Although it makes no sense,
this essence of you then rises,
rides in waves of purity,
I finally accept the miracle
of knowing you.

Oh, Corinne~
This is just wonderful ! !

'When I’ve put all thoughts of you
well into past tense,
a memory unveils,
without pretense,
of a man who gave without bounds.

Although it makes no sense,
this essence of you then rises,
rides in waves of purity,
I finally accept the miracle,
of knowing you.'

Sometimes after the ripples have run the length of the shoreline ...
we still remember the magnitude of the wave.

Beautifully rendered.

Thank you so much, Marge! Coming to terms with a painful, yet rewarding relationship is difficult, I find myself writing a lot about this person.

Thank you, Sea!

Logan, you are wise, my friend!

Thanks, Sunshine!

Amazing writing Corrine.
