Through the Looking Glass

When I was young
I knew this girl..
I hated her.
A profound loathing really
The mention of her name
Seeing her
The very THOUGHT of her
An unbearable malice.
I don't know why.

She was in no physical way
Extra Ordinary
As teenage girls go.
She was thin enough
Pretty enough
Tall enough
Voluptuous enough.
So average
It made me sick.

There wasn't a flaw about her.
In fact,
She was perfect.
Perfectly intelligent
Perfectly funny
Perfectly friendly
Perfectly polite.
She was.

She was the perfect friend.
I barely knew her.
She instatneously befriended me
With more compassion and intrest
Than any one single person
Ever

But when I was with her
I searched.
I searched her every word
Movement
Gesture
Step.
I searched for why
I hated her
So badly.

It pained me.
It stole away my sleep.
She was controlling my life
And she was oblivious
To my hatred.

I hated her
Because I hated
Being alone.
I hated her
Because she never was.
I hated her
Because
Even I loved her.
I hated her
Because
I could never be like her.
I hated her
Because she was
What I was not.

She was happy...

There is a lesson here to be learned in your words.  Jealousy is an ugly monster that can destroy all we know.  You hated her because you envied her.  I think we have all been there at one time in our lives.  The secret to our happiness is that it must come from within.  We cannot steal it from another.  We must make our own.  It can be done.  It isn't easy, but it is obtainable.  Great write.  Very thought provoking.

All writing comes
by the grace of God.

I believe that happiness is in great part, knowing who you are, what you want, and being that person.  Be you, not her.  Beauty is individuality.  Perfection is not.  Happiness is only a smile away.
