First Kiss of Summer
Virginia Salter

razzle, dazzle, razzle berries
tease my tongue and dance my nares
picking one an’ picking two
should I save a few for you

in my tiny garden measure
is my little razzle treasure
seems it’s quite apparent, dear
someone beat me to my cheer

feathered miss or thieving gent
are likely where some berries went
as I spot ‘mong maple trees
‘tempting grow beneath my knees

find them all, a little bunch
rinse them now, too late for lunch
ooh there’s one so sweet and juicy
even those a little mooshy

if you were here, my darling friend
I’d share with you until the end
yet since you’re not, no need to worry
I’d not let them rot, no need to scurry

for there’ll be gone before you know it
my teeth will have the seeds to show it
so take it from me, friend of mine
there’s some more upon the vine

and should you perchance to by here tarry
bring a thimble for you to carry
a sampling of my little nest
of my razzleberry treasure chest
