I walk slowly around the track
Pausing to admire the beauty
Of the now lit luminaries
Each one a burning symbol
Of those who lost the fight
For they are here in memory
With us on this warm night

As I walk this lap in honor
Of each and every one
Their names are being read
Echoing through the night
All the way to heaven
Where surely they hear
Our tribute to their lives

Each one is decorated
With a loving hand
Some in vibrant colors
Others have pictures
All done from the heart
Of a life that has been touched
By their presence here

Yes they are gone
But shall never be forgotten
For deep in our hearts
They live eternally
In memories that shine
As bright as a million stars
On a cloudless night

My head is filled
With countless emotions
As I walk in silence
Feeling the weight
Of significance on me
In life they knew pain
But in death comes peace

So to all who have passed
This one is dedicated to you
For you are the reason
We are here tonight
Giving of our time
Banding together at last
To find and fight for a cure

*I had the pleasure this weekend of participating in the Relay For Life, a team event to fight cancer.  When I left our campsite at 1am this morning, the teams walking had raised $52,000 towards finding a cure.  It was an honor and a privilege to participate.  A special thank you to Sven who gave his time to walk for my team.  So today, I dedicate my 4000th post to the Williamston Relay For Life.

It is an awesome event, isn't it!!! Absolutely awesome!  Your poem and photo reflect it so well.  And congratulations on your 4000th, it's a great selection for such a milestone!  Causes more people to come in and share in this wonderful experience, I think...I hope!

First, congrats on the milestone...

And second, this is a beautiful poem for such a worthy cause! I love the idea of luminaries for a memorial. Wonderful work, Jennifer!

Sunshine: Thank you very much!

Marge: I thought this was way more fitting than the poem I had originally written for my 4000th post.  I am happy to share this event with everyone here.  It is great to hear that you sponsored walkers in your area, it is truly a worthy cause.  *Hugs*

Poet deVine: Thank you on all counts.  I try my best to be the woman I know I really am.

Interloper: Much thanks to you for always taking the time to read.

Kathleen: I am humbled by your words this afternoon.  For out of all here, I believe you know the real me.  All the poetry is from the heart be it truth or fiction and it is always written with great love and care.  Your words have touched me, my friend.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

VAS: It is truly a sight to behold.  I hope more people read this and realize they too can be a part of making a difference in the world.  Yes, they may be one person, but when joined with all the other one persons they number millions.  Thank you.

Elizabeth: Thank you very much.  They are a fitting memorial for they shine as bright as those who no longer do, but once did.

M_E: I appreciate your words greatly.  Hugs right back to you!

Amy: The compassion is a gift bestowed upon me by my mother.  This cause is just one of many that my team participates in.  I am glad you enjoyed it.  Thank you, my friend.

brian: Thank you!

Paula: You are welcome.  I just had to share what I felt last night.  Hopefully it will serve to inspire others to do the same.

Logan: What a sweet thing to say!  My soul does indeed sing.  Thank you for your words...smiling right back at you!

Charisma: In my eyes, the was the best tribute I could give today.  I care deeply about others and have supported many causes.  It is a benefit that I get from working for a very charitable company.  Thank you much.  May God Bless You also.

Better late than never (been sickiepo) well, this was a wonderful tribute to a very worthy cause (we even had then in Canada this weekend and I too sponsored many on their walks - easier than doing it myself   ) all kidding aside, congratulations you two, for caring, and to you Lone Wolf for making this fine tribute which will hold the memory close to your hearts for all time.  Wow, congratulations on your 4000th post too!

You captured the spirit and emotion of it well here as well as you own thoughts on it. geesh..I ramble. Sorry. I loved it, yanno?

Martie: Thank you!!

ethome: I thought so too.  It just seemed fitting for today.

Sven: Thank you for walking with my team.  I appreciate that.  It was very special and I'll never forget it.  I hope more people get involved in this event.  Together we can make a difference.

James: Amen!

Melissa: It's a great way to help out.  I was more than happy to do it.  Every little bit helps.  It really does.  Thanks!

Mysteria: I am happy to hear you have them there too.  Ha ha, yes sponsors are a very important part of it.  The memory will be with me for a long time to come.  I can't wait to do it again next year to be honest.

Temptress: No matter how bad you think you have it, there is always someone out there who has it worse than you could ever imagine.  Whatever you are going through, you can endure it with the help of God's love.  That is what he is there for, which means you are never really alone.  Glad you loved it, I am happy to share it with all of you.  Thank you!

Sandra: Thank you very much!
