Open your eyes...
Look...I mean, really look...
What is there the most of on this earth?
People?  Yes...people...
The keepers of the planet, and the most
prolific organisms on the face of the earth...
Billions of us...
So, why can’t we see each other?
Why do we pay attention to some,
and look right through the rest?
Who decides which ones of us are ‘Transparent’?

Are your eyes really open?
Can you focus on the close-up?
Set your eyes for ‘Anti-Transparent’!
Then look at life’s scene in front of you...
Do you see all those homeless people?
Whole families, sleeping under the bridge,
while limosines roll overhead?
Do you see the old woman, behind the greasy spoon,
rummaging through the dumpster for some half-eaten
morsel to take back to her old man,
because he is dying and cannot feed them?
Look closer... at the corner of the red-light district...
See that little girl over there,
with all the trappings of a thirty-five year old,
plying the oldest profession on earth?
Why do you think she chose this?
It’s a last-ditch effort to stop the gnawing of her starvation...

You may say you don’t know these people...
You’re right!  You’ve never seen them before...
but they were here all along...
The homeless, the old, the hungry...
Right under your nose...
But they were ‘Transparent’... But wait...
Could it be that ‘You’ are ‘Transparent?
That you are easy to see through?
With all your false motives and phony excuses,
that were ingrained in you from birth?
Because of your steady diet of apathy?

You aren’t really to blame...
This is a world society of overlooking the obvious...
In this society, there exists ‘Transparent’ people,
in every culture...
But the homeless, old, and hungry
are but one small group of human transparencies...
The largest group is the one most of us belong to...
The ones who run the place...
We fit in...we conform...we achieve...
But we’re empty...we can’t fool ourselves...
We know there’s something missing...
We know our souls are lacking...
We have become...
‘Transparent’...

The road goes on forever, and the stories never end...

Great message!  I like the appeal in this verse!

                                "Set your eyes for ‘Anti-Transparent’!
It’s a last-ditch effort to stop the gnawing of her starvation..."

Charisma...
yes, the homeless break my heart too...especially since I have had that experience.  It's a lonely world. Thank you for your reply my dear friend!

Logan...
It's so easy to overlook these helpless ones, and so good to hear of those like you who actually see them.  Thank you!!

ethome...
this poem hits very close to home, and I felt a little bit of me go into every word of it.  Thank you for seeing what was there!

The road goes on forever, and the stories never end...
