I sit here on the shore
My mind filled with lore
Of the days long past
The die had been cast
Nothing I could do
To change things for you

I still have to wonder why
You were so painfully shy
When we were both young
On a wish your dream hung
It burned so bright
Until that fateful night

You used to be the quiet girl
Who hid herself from the world
Until you found your calling
Into the arts you were falling
Song, music, and dance
Gave you many a chance

To spread your wings and fly
Reaching far up to the sky
The angels knew you were blessed
Passing each of life’s tests
You had so much reason to live
So much love still to give

Then once rainy afternoon
It all happened too soon
Life was taken from you
Nothing we could do
As the truck moved on
In an instant you were gone

The driver had too many drinks
At that point he couldn’t think
When the light turned to red
Through the intersection he sped
Crashed right into your car
Leaving us all with a scar

I went to say good-bye
Asking God why you had to die
A life so full of promise and hope
How would we ever cope?
I know one thing for sure
Alcohol is never the cure

To this day I remember still
The sweetness of your gentle will
That last time I saw you there
You told me I had talent to spare
Never to forget that fact
It was like our silent pact

For today I carry on
It’s been years since you’ve gone
So long dear friend of mine
In the heavens your star will shine
As I place a rose on your grave
In the distance an angel waves

LoneWolf this touches my heart so deeply because i had a good friend who died because
of a drunk driver and this poem you've certainly captured it well,if only people would think before they drink and not get behind the wheel and try to drive..

Your heart of gold shines here my friend,
It hurts to know that this sorrow has
touched your life...but the friendship and
beauty of her life touched you as well and
that you shall always carry with you.
Beautiful heartfelt writing~

You made me cry and touched my heart...
your gift is wonderful, please share it often!

Let my words fall first upon deaf ears before a closed mind...

Said from the soul, my friend, I like to think that the path is cut short so that the next path is already blessed with their presence and they will be rewarded with their dreams..well done

LW

this touches my heart in ways i
can't quite convey--just know you
brought tears to my eyes and moved
my heart this morning. i am very sorry
for your loss but i do agree with you.
your friend is high in Heaven and safe
and watching down upon you as an Angel.
Take care sweetie.

It's a terrible thing isnt it?  You've written this with much depth and care and honest thoughts right from your heart which is what you do so well.

Watersign6: The loss of a life to a drunk driver is a terrible thing to go through.  I hope by reading this, more people do think.

Marge: Thank you.

Tovi: When something like this happens, there are tons of emotions left behind.  Thanks.

BDC: Aw, thank you.  This happened years ago to a good friend of mine.  I was just thinking about where she would be today if this hadn't happened.  Her friendship did touch me and I shall never forget it.  Nice to see you around, by the way!

azblond: Have a tissue for those tears.  Stick around and you'll see plenty more from me.

Logan: I like your take on this.  I know she deserved many rewards and I know she is getting them now.  Thanks!

Temptress: Always sad, but I felt I needed to write this one.  Hopefully someone will see the error of their ways.

walker: Thanks!

ethome: What a lovely reply!  Thank you much!

Aimster: She is in heaven and surely an angel.  She had many talents in her short life.  Perhaps she fulfilled her purpose here early and was called home to rest.  One can only wonder.  You take care too.

Charisma: Aw, (((warm hugs back))).

PV: Thank you much!

Kathleen: It is an awful thing, sweetheart.  She was the only daughter in her family.  Very sorely missed throughout the years.  Thank you, my friend, your words mean a lot to me.  You know me, always from the heart.
