A battered Gibson guitar-
Circa nineteen forty-nine.
A Blues harp made by Hohner,
“Happy” was a friend of mine.

I never knew his last name-
It mattered not a whit...
Old “Happy Jack”, the drifter-
The name just seemed to fit.

The say that in the fifties-
He played with old Bob Wills.
And the Texas Playboys...
His harp produced the frills.

Leon plays the upright bass,
While Tommy Duncan sings.
Johnny Gimble’s fiddle-
Seems to give their music wings.

But somewhere in the background
There’s a haunting eulogy...
Played on a sad old Blues harp.
That’s “Happy”s” break, you see?

Bravo!  I love the way you bring the past into our memories and hearts.

Let my words fall first upon deaf ears before a closed mind...
