I was sitting here just thinking-
“I wonder why I write”?
It seems so repetitious-
And most of it quite trite.

Tales that no one cares for-
Of a way of life long past...
Perhaps in effort to explain-
The mold from which I’m cast.

No joy at home when I was young,
That’s neither here nor there.
My books were my compainions,
As I dreamed of maidens fair.

I left when I was seventeen-
To wear a uniform...
I saw the balmy tropic seas-
Ere most of you were born.

I drifted through the great Southwest
With a bedroll and a saddle,
My goal was really, see the world-
My pastime, punching cattle.

I’ve outlived friends and family-
My way of life is gone...
I’d love to see the Mogollon,
By light of early dawn.

I’d like to ride the mountain trails,
And watch the setting sun-
Make it’s bed there in the West,
Like me, it’s journey done.

Yet I've noticed a trend with the setting sun
It rises anew each day
So with weary bones I ride again
Even if words now are my way.

I loved it...

Let my words fall first upon deaf ears before a closed mind...
