sleep - i wish

many a night i wonder
why i cannot sleep
when all in the house around me
are lost in dream so deep
what can i do in these waking hours
that hasn't been done by day
there must be something i can do
to while these hours away
i watch tv,i read a book
i've even taken a pill
does any of it work?
the simple truth is nill!
i sit here filled with envy
as all around me slumber
knowing it'll be wee small hours
before my bed i'll clamber
sleep will finally take me
to that place of rest
a few precious moments
a couple of hours at best!

Listening to every heart

I suffered same from this grist
and asked the angels for a kiss
I asked for strange and other things
and nothing brought relief it seems

but write, I did, it brought relief
from slumber's wake I would believe
it brought a cure, I knew not when
but sandman, now, he comes again

write it out, then write, AGAIN,
and you shall sleep, and snore, and then,
someone shall nudge you in your dreams
and ask "can you be quiet...again!"

I'm very thankful I rarely have trouble with sleeping.  You've written the frustration well.

Welcome to passions, zzz, nice cadence and rhyme.
If you want to find a cure for insomnia you could try reading my work, that's been known to send fractious babies to sleep.
Here's a small sample.

I tried those pills
to cure night ills
they gave me chills
and no thrills

To sleep I went
by those pills sent
but my lament
is my sanity bent

And now I find
that I unwind
by poets kind
who read my mind

and offer care
on nights we share
or I despair
and sleep's not there

Don't worry zzz
I'm sure you'll be
sleeping like me
when your mind is free.

Pleasant dreams.

Write on
