Lottery Ticket Mindset

by Michael

The dusted window selfishly rations light.
The drought of landscape, of spirit,
shows no chance on ending soon.

There is no solace to the grieving.
Time has a way of thickening
the walls to the heart, constricting
vessels of blood that continually
carry images of hurt and suffering,
of guilt and loss.

There are no tears for the living.
We each carry a trunk on our backs,
filled with dreams unrealized,
friendships lost, love’s demise,
broken childhoods,
fear of the unknown.
With each passing year,
it gets heavier.

Unlike a lottery ticket,
you can’t scratch at life
and hope in an instant
things will be forever changed.

The change, the luck, is in us all.
I’ve found that you don’t
scratch at life,
you scrape at it
and fiercely,
never allowing it
to scab over and become
complacent.

The trunk we all must carry,
however, packing the contents
in a more organized manner
will make the load appear lighter
and the carrying less burdensome.

How true...our sucess are our own!

Let my words fall first upon deaf ears before a closed mind...

Packing the contents in a more organized manner...unique idea for lightening the load.  Will think on this one a while!

An excellent line, here, one that we should all remember, no matter our age, or our situation....
