The following poem was an answer to a challenge to write to a painting. To view the painting, go to: http://artistryinpoetry.org/paintings/paintings.htm

He’s Comin’ Home Again!
Virginia Salter

Look, it’s just like the carriage in my dream
I told you, I told you!

Mama, in the shadows,  clutches baby to her breast.

Papa’s comin’ home again!
‘member, in the dream,
He had a big surprise!

She peers hard into the distance.

A wiggly, squiggly, squirmy, big surprise!
I can hardly wait till they arrive!
I just know he’ll have a big, big hug
for each of us...

A tear begins to surface at the corner of her eye.

And the surprise,
well, it will be a wonderful friend,
paper tearing,
bedtime sharing,
yipping, yapping,
daytime napping
cuddly bundle of fluff...

Black curtains now evident in the depth of her sigh.

then
it’ll bring us sticks,
do charming tricks,
and curl up by the fire
when the storms are raging
and nighttime’s staging
a ‘lectric light show

A pall is reaching out, clutching her heart with enormous pain.

Papa’s comin’,
you just wait and see,
that’s Papa comin’
from across the war-torn sea
back to you and me!
Let’s go out to meet him,
last one there’s a rotten egg!

As their power brings her tears to an everlasting rain.
Children, WAIT!

I liked it before and I like it even better with your modifications.  Well done.

He sure must be a happy guy, having all this waiting for him.

Enjoyed it very much.
