In a time past
That time before
The sky fell,
The people were
Still a part of all spirits
And the mountains,
Which held the sky,
Still sacred places
That one visited
Only on quest for
Vision.

One day,
Sky looked down
And saw the people
Were very fond of Sun
Who traveled across
Sky’s prairie every
Day and in passing
Always faded
Sky’s deep blue.

Sky grew jealous
And heartbroken,
As she felt the people
Did not truly give her
The honor she deserved.

Several days later, Sun,
Ready to begin his daily
Trek across the prairie,
Was met by Sky at the
Edge of Morning
And denied passage.

Sun explained
That he must travel
Or the people will surely
Lose their way
Without him to guide
Their daily lives.

Sky stood firm
And grew rigid in her denial,
And Sun lost patience
As the day was already
Late in starting.

He tried to move
Past her and force his way
Onto the wheel which
Connects all things,
But she reached out
And grabbed him
And they wrestled.

The people noticed
It was not yet light
And began to sing
Songs of passing
Trying to call the sun
For they feared the darkness.

Sun heard their calls,
And wrenched himself free
Of Sky’s grip. Sky felt her
Fingers break off completely
And watched as they fell
Shattered, on the mountains.

Sky has never been able
To hold anything in her hands
Since this battle, and the
Mountains, still sacred,
Now contain turquoise.

A wonderful story, indeed, and I for one, am grateful for its telling....

as turquoise is my birthstone, I shall keep this legend in my library!

This is one of the most beautiful fables I have ever had the joy to read.  Your talent is one that needs to be shared, please don't ever stifle yourself with silence!

Let my words fall first upon deaf ears before a closed mind...
