I Have Been Chosen

I have been chosen and been used
By callow youths and men of fame
In ways that slighted and abused
The very meaning of my name

I am an age old song of glee
Revered and spoken with esteem
In verses marked by destiny
Along the Avon’s gentle stream

I’m light as cradles soothing motion
Floating in a lullaby
I’m heavy laden with emotion
Spellbound in desirous eyes

I come from God, from mother’s breast
From child’s heart and lover’s eyes
I am a song, I am a quest
That no one here on earth denies

I’ve launched a ship, I’ve soared through space
I’m in your garden’s brightest bloom
I’m etched upon a lovely face
And in the shadows of your room

I’m heard in melodies and hymns
In ocean’s tides and heart beat’s throb
In lilt of laughter, sighs within
In joyful tears and sorrow’s sob

I’m in the glowing midnight realm
To which you wish and say a prayer
I guide your life, I steer the helm
In thoughts and dreams and deeds of dare

I have a power unsurpassed
The gentle peace of cooing dove
The sound of lark in summer grass
I am a simple word called love

How can I relate to you how I identified with this, it is the most glorious verse I think I"ve read in a very long time.  Thank you for this one, Elizabeth.

Elizabeth this flows with such rythum and rhyme and the expressions and illustrations are marvelous. I think this is one of your finest and I love all the rest!

"I’m light as cradles soothing motion
                                      Floating in a lullaby
                                  I’m heavy laden with emotion
                                  Spellbound in desirous eyes"

There have been so many things written about love..........as Phil Collins sang

"You can't hurry love
you just have to wait.
Cause love don't come easy
it's a game of give and take"

This is a beautiful poem describing the marvelous qualities of  love and the different ways love appears........ It's one of the best I've ever read!

The role of poetry is to utter the un-utterable; to open up
spaces of consciousness and resistance; to language oppressions; to
re-language historie

Rarely do I find a piece that leaves me so touched as this.  Into my library as a favorite piece of life.  Thank you for this gem of the day.
