What a lonely old angel she appeared to be,
wishing  for a moment that she had wings.
All  she had was a bitter veil of madness and the
Mad fury of a wind wild with serpent's stings.

Like a broken toy she'd been discarded,
And left to weep beside life's busy  thoroughfare.
Just another Old Mother – the kind the  busy  world
Blinks and grins and pretends is not there.

Christmas shoppers clogged  the  cold street,
Pushing her aside with their hurry and scurry.
She fell to her old, scabbed worn knees twice…
She's only clutter said their eyes - so why worry?

Snuggled in the mall’s warmth, spotlighted
And playing a tinny version of "Silent Night"
Is a creshe who's Saviour is plastic and plaster,
And whose painted eyes are without a bit of light.

Old Mother sees the baby, tears film her eyes.
He looks so much like her grandchild … doesn't He?
She will never know, she will never hold a precious
child denied her for a son's  anger and vanity.

Darkness comes  wearily with the end of another
profitable, busy Christmas-frantic shopping day.
No one notices one old angel as she kneels in pain
and anguish before the creshe  and begins to pray.

Left there in that empty darkness, forgotten…
There is no one to stop her reaching her arms,  holding Him.
His plastic cheeks are now rosy, His painted eyes of blue
twinkle as he coos lovingly – no longer faded, drab and dim.

Shoppers will find no old, unwanted, unloved woman
Wandering, confused in that loveless, sterile urban mall.
But they will see an angel  with a babe in her arms,
and the tears of joy she shed in that make-believe stall.

"A woman is like a tea bag, you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water..." Eleanor Rooevelt

Lady, this does remind me of one I wrote....but far different....

tender, just the same...haunting...certainly....

(tears of joy fall down my face) OH MY GOSH, THIS IS SOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL!!! The Christmas spirit can indeed bring much magic, even true love and mistletoe dreams! (smiles) I had this dream of two lovebird turtle doves that found each other under a mistletoe sprig on the church bell rings of Christmas Day! (smiles) May that lucky woman always have her babe in her arms! (smiles) What a beautiful poem with indeed an angel of the holidays! (smiles) I love it!!! You have such a beautiful heart, dear friend, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton
