Between Each Breath

Between each breath,
I think of you, my precious one.

Your long auburn hair,
the way it touched my skin,
the scent of it and you,
I  cannot forget.

Remember when we walked
hand in hand at the park?
My hand always fit your
own so well.
Yours was so smooth and fragile
in my strong and calloused
one.

Oh, how I miss your touch.

I saw a woman
in the store the other day.
From the back, she resembled you.
I hurried along and caught up with her,
only to be disappointed.

It’s corny to say
that tears stain my pillow,
but they really do.

I dread going to bed at night
all alone.
I sometimes get a lump in my throat.

I visited your grave today
for the first time.
I hugged your marker,
as tears dripped
and ran down it.
So hard it is to know
that you aren’t coming back.
Forgive me as I cry
while writing this.

I will never love another
as I have loved you.
I will never marry again.
Rest, my dear one.
Rest and know
that I’ll always hold you closely.

This is so achingly beautiful. I hope that your heart finds the peace it seems to need...

Oh, the tears won't stop... goodness this is a sad write but you did it well. I must get myself together now.
