I think about the things I’ve done-
The places I have been-
In fact I’ve had an easy run,
And made a lot of friends.

The butterflies I used to feel-
A’straddlin’ the chutes...
A buckin’ horse between my thighs,
My spurs upon my boots.

I think about the lonely nights
I spent beside the road.
The times I made a winning ride,
And times when I got throwed...

Broken bones and broken heart-
And broken promises...
Are all a part of living free,
They make me reminisce.

I’ve seen the snow bound Rockies...
I’ve crossed the burning sand...
I’ve carpentered, and cowboyed-
And been an oilfield hand.

About a dozen other things-
I’ve tried, to make a buck...
I’ve hit it big a time or two...
And had some real bad luck.

But it really doesn’t matter,
If I float, or if I sink...
I’ve done all I’ve ever wanted,
It don’t matter what you think.

If the sun don’t rise tomorrow,
And you place me in the ground-
Just say, Here lies a drifter...
Who has really been around.

This was very entertaining poetry, and I love the rhyme, so short, sweet, and not forced in my mind, loved your story!

Slinger~
Just skirting the blue pages and found this wonderfully lilting write.
You just keep 'drifting' ...
we'll find ya' !

Marvelous cadence and rhythm to your verse.
