in the middle of the night
I awake softly and silently
barely moving
I do not know what
spirit of the darkness has
wakened me, nor do I know why
until I see you
lying next to me
on your side, your back to me

through the blankets, I can make out
the softness of your sleeping form
and on the pillow, I can see your face,
your hair falls from your head delicately
framing your eyes of love, now closed
I think about your eyes for a moment
how they smile at me every morning
how they kiss me every night
how you speak to me without a word with them

I softly sigh and look at the clock
3:00 am, much too late to be awake
I say to myself
and so, I curl up next to you on the bed
put my arms around you, holding you close
you gently make yourself a part of me
without awakening, we are now one
I whisper in your ear, "I love you"
and I return to dreams again
knowing that they have already
come true

I enjoyed this one very much!  Now you will have everyone going to sleep in hopes of wakening up in the middle of the night and looking to the other side of the bed.

"the softness of your sleeping form and on the pillow

Hopefully they will not be dissappointed.
