Goodbye, My Friend

by Michael

If morning wakes and I wake not
remember what I say.
I had such faith in who you are.
I knew no other way.

Intelligent and beautiful,
there’s nothing you can’t do.
Please stand your ground, as I stood mine,
that’s all I ask of you.

My thoughts were that of tender hugs.
Your tears, I take with me,
to drop at isle of Skidaway,
that they be washed to sea.

Sometimes my words were lessons taught,
my strength, for you to share.
I always wished you happiness,
each word, a show of care.

Your friendship meant so very much,
I knew that I was blessed.
I leave you now, but with a smile.
It’s time for me to rest.

Sweet song this night,
of borrowed rest,
may thee seek tomorrow's light,
and bring with thee
your best.

Everyone needs to write a poem or two like this and you've done it well.

Too bad this was written in the past tense.

Well done.

Beautiful poem, but I'm glad you won't have to rest yet my friend, cause we would be deprived (hope that is the right word) from your sweet poetry so well written.

Michael you write so well that you make "good-bye" sound poetic. Shalom ~ Mabel

Decaflame,
How lovely.    Thank you

Watersign6,
Welcome to Passions and our happy family.  Thank you and I'm glad you liked this

Martie,
Please dry your tears, sweet one.  It's just a poem, my friend.

Krawdad,
I appreciate your nice comments.  Thanks.

RebeccaJoy,
Welcome to Passions.  You're going to love it here.  I'll be looking for your poetry and thank you for the nice words.

Interloper,
I wrote this in the past tense because I was thinking out loud, wondering if some of the lessons I've taught would have been remembered by this special friend.  I spoke with her today and see that they have.  She's just wonderful and yes, we're still friends.  Thanks

Elizabeth Anne,
Hi there! :-)  Yes, she's very dear to me. Thank you

Titia,
Yes, it is the right word and thank you for such a nice thing to say.

Lauren,
The friendship hasn't ended and won't.  She and I are very close and always have been.  I think you'd like her a lot.  Thanks

Sue,
Thanks for the "WOW" and it's good to see you again.

Sharon,
We're still friends.  Thanks for reading.

inot2B,
She never left and yes, I am always there.  I told her today that I was her biggest fan and no matter what should happen in her life, I'll always believe in her.  Thank you.

Julian,
Thank you for the compliment and for reading this piece.

Helen,
Thank you and I'm glad you liked it.  I see your posts on a lot of my poems and I just want to let you know how much I appreciate it.  Again, thanks.
