listen.

blink your eyes slowly
and inhale deeply as they open.

forget everything you know.

start to feel your own heartbeat,
and listen down.

count, but only in ones.

it will slow.
in stillness, is more.

now, listen out,
for signs of life.

trees breathing with the wind.

cicadas and katydids arguing
for dominion in hidden treetops.

birds claiming their small slice of sky.

and the damnable noise
of humankind's toys.

this works better in the forest.

I am a great forest lover and I spend much time there...so I can relate to the ending of this poem. However, I really like the idea of it all, good writing!

I listen to hear
whispered tears
silent yearnings
a stifled cry

Humanity's song
in hope and fear
I listen yet all hear
something different

Nicely done, and the forest is surely a superior place for such eavesdropping on Nature.

I have a friend who once said-"Sooner or later, Death makes a believer out of just about everyone."

Ahh the voice of mother nature always rings sweet.

For the moment swallows all things blinding our eyes to Heaven.

Well done, love it. That's why I live way out in the country, sometimes one can 'hear' the silence.

Hi!

ethome - thanks, sometimes around here, you have to wander a bit to find a forest.

Death - it's...um...nice to hear from you,  i think.  i'm not quite done with the poems, so let's do lunch in like 40 years, ok?

ArticulatedSigh - i don't know that i'd like Heaven without nature, thanks.

Titia - thanks!  you mix forms and ask if you're doing it right (the acrostic vs haiku one) i might get that good at it eventually.

Denise - in 2015, when i have 16,000 posts...damn!  thanks, really...tom
