Don't Tread On Me

When I was young
I would visit my cousin
Who lived in Gold Beach, Oregon,
A sleepy town
Coiled beside the Rogue
Where it empties into the Pacific Ocean.
I find it strange
That later we would both become
Members of the Fleet Marine.
Well, maybe not,
Remembering the time
We found a Diamondback
Camping out with us
On the same log raft.

That would have been enough to send me running the opposite direction....

Bob--Interesting the way you so subtly point out the similarities between you and your cousin...you slip it into your words, and the sudden impact stops me with a wow.

I guess if you were able to go camping after that, you'd certainly be a capable marine, able to endure the threat of the hand of man and nature.

Enjoyed the read, even it the snake creeped me out!

You mean you never met up with one of those critters in ITR?  Camp San Onofre was wiggling with them   They just loved grenade holes
