I'm sorry but this old chick can't change anymore

I've tried and tried to do it their way that's for sure

I've raised each and every one to know their own mind

To make their own way, work themself out of a bind

Oh they learned well and lessons have been passed on

They've made mistakes and who hasn't but had sense to go on

My mistakes have been the greatest not all have been forgiven

No matter what, I have to live with it, can't wish for might-have-been

I keep trying to make amends, change a little more here or there

By deed, ask for forgiveness, a small part of their life to share

They throw me a crumb and I'm in heaven, a fool's a fool again

A door almost opens, I just want a glimpse inside, but they win

I'm outside, might as well be deaf, dumb, blind, but I hurt

And need to let go.  I still have a picture which never leaves my heart

I can live with them, touch them, hold them and not change any more

I can always be at the ready in case they open that door

I find myself wondering if this is about the changing of one's relationship with their offspring.  My daughter and I struggled so with ours between the time she was 14 until she was about 27.  Now, we are so close and can enjoy each other's company a lot.  The relationship can come back around.

I was wondering the same thing. The old cliche works 'time does heal' and the door will open and things will be fine again. Regrets are smoothed over with an effort to change and you're doing that!  Gret lines of life in this poem.

I refuse to change to please grown children. I did all I could to help them mature and become productive adults.
Love my children but not real happy with the adults they have become.

VAS, it is on-going.  They are in their 40's and I think it is time to stop trying.

Ethome, the time has run out.  Oh, I will always be there with open arms.  But the hurt is still there.

inot2B, I'm not happy with these adults either, but I guess they are less happy with me.

ME
Can relate, and i agree, but my door is always there for them. But I also like inot2B reply.

Mother Earth, please don't try to do things their way, won't work, just be yourself.

They simply have to accept you as you are, as you have to accept them what they have become. Nothing more, nothing less.

Take your space, but give them their space.
You're their mother, but you don't owe them as they don't owe you.

It worked quite well for us, and I hope it will work for you too.

Very nice written though.

Sorry, Titia, I missed you.  It has just gotten worse-- the silence.  At times I just want to see them or hear their voice.  Out of 5, two are gone to me with 9 grand kids and 4 great grands.  Maybe in time......

Watersign6, thank you and I am honored that you want to read more.

As I read this an old favorite song verse  comes to mind....

from my love Jackson Browne...

Now for you and me it made not be that hard to reach our dreams
But that magic feeling never seems to last
And while the future's there for anyone to change
Still you know it's seems
It would be easier sometimes to change the past

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
if only it was that easy to change the past and undo the things we regret...
but then if all of life was easy...
we as humans would take it for granted.
Powerful write Mother E...ya got me thinking and pondering...and thats always a good thing
I'm hanging on your every word
Even if you dont want to speak tonite
It's alright
I'm sitting outside heaven's door
listening to you breathe
I had lost my relationship with my Mom when she left my Dad. Thankfully after a lot of hard work my sister and I both got our relationship with our mother back.
Oh this is sad! I have an 8 year old and a 3 year old. As close as I am to them now, I could not imagine there not being a relationship. My kids are my life! I hope you get all you have been waiting for! Actually, I believe you will!
Janet Marie, can't say I've heard the song and ..... don't hit me!!..don't know who Jackson Browne is.  But I will look now.  Thanks for the kind words.
DawnG, I am so glad you got back together.
Charisma, Let's just send hugs to each other and go on from there!
pamela08, you are so right.  Sounds like you have the strength to carry on.
Saunni, thank you and I am sure you will.
