taraxacum officinale compositae

my grandfather lived in the woods in wales
and made wine from dandelions.

"the chief benefits of this herb are exerted
upon the function of the liver, and it has the
capacity to clear obstructions and stimulate
the liver to detoxify poisons."

the last time i was there, i was eleven,
and almost chopped off my leg with an axe.

"it is of tremendous benefit to the stomach
and intestines.  to treat stomaches, drink
one-half cup of the infusion every half hour
until relief is obtained."

he lived near a town called cardigan
and i swam in the ocean when they said it was too cold.

"dandelion root is also of benefit in helping
to lower blood pressure,
thus aiding the action of the heart."

it wasn't a weed to him,
and on a kid's quest into the forest,
i found a lot of them.

Brilliant, it inspired me to write my own ...

All fine and Dandy(lion) .

I was walking through the woods,
Where bright Blue bells and snow drops stood,
But it wasn't these that I was high on,
It was the pretty Dandelion .

Written by Tom Baker .©

Thanks very much, I hope you don't mind me surfing on the wave you created . I realy enjoyed the poem, nice one .

Hi!

Sunshine...
i'm still learning this stuff, thanks!

angelswing...
very neat poem.
were you once Dr. Who?
i see UK and "tom baker", i think Dr. Who.

the quotes are from this book:

"The Way of Herbs"
(c) 1983 Michael Tierra, C.A., N.D.
ISBN 0-671-46686-0

my question is, why do they call anything that grows where nothing else can, a "weed"?

i tend to think they're just 'hardy'...tom
