In the clear and crystal
clarity of a Wednesday morning,
I see a man sleeping on the concrete
ledge in the park.
Familiarity tugs my puppet’s strings.
I had a man like that once,
a junkie.
On tippy-toes and terrified,
leaning to see…
I dislodge a wedge of pigeons
who swoop toward the north.
On a rooftop they sit,
scolding my relief.

This is so vividly stark a visualization...Welcome to the forum...and THIS I LOVED:

On a rooftop they sit,
scolding my relief.

Just perfect.

I really like those pigeons! This is a good beginning. I'm flying right behind you, hoping to get a couple posted this week.

Welcome, Ladypoet, to a great place to be.  You painted a picture and brought back memories of my daughter's first trip to D.C.  She grew a lot that trip and made me proud of her.  I didn't have the nerve to peek at the "sleeping" people, but wonder at their stories and lives.  Wonderful pictures and words for my mind.  ME
