Pieces of Cake

They fall in pieces,
lemon-poppy seeded flakes,
encrusted Black-Forest hunks,
Soufflé crumbs,
raining from a dry sky
in the gray background
of memory.

A friendly rivalry -
our birthday tradition,
to request from the other
the perfect cake,
with an eye for
ever-increasing
levels of difficulty.

From the still hopeful side of thirty
to the worries of our forties,
we became obsessed in our quest
to dispel rumors
that life eventually ends.

As long as our hands
can still pour, stir
and gently fold,
we’ll be whipping up
comfort.

Cor,
This is beautiful stuff you have here. What a way you have of describing life's details.   Hope you are well, Friend.

Corinne~
This is such an adorable tradition between friends -

Hope your friend enjoyed her Tiramisu !

Thank you Jenn! Yes, I am well, hope you are too, dear friend.

Brian - shore 'nuff, more home cookin' comin' up!

Marge - she changed her mind after I informed her that Tiramisu has raw eggs in it, wound up making lemon-poppy seed pound cake, cheese souffle (at 7000 feet elevation, mind you!), and something called warm chicken salad. Was beautiful at Lake Tahoe, feel another Tahoe poem coming on!

Bob - thank you, kind sir. Hope your Memorial Day was a peaceful one shared with friends and loved ones...

Logan,

Great to see you, old friend. Don't know how you found us here, but glad you did! Looking forward to your "meanderings."

Cor
