I wrote this poem, and gave it to my sister to read.  She in turn gave it to Bill Charles who informed me of ‘Passions’ where he wanted me to post it. I have the hepatitis ‘C’ virus which was given to me through a government blood transfusion. Thank you all for your kindness in letting me post this poem.

Koreen

   “TAKE IT FROM ME”

Our government felt generous,
They gave me something free…
I don’t think that you’d want it,
Because it’s hepatitis-c…

For many many months,
I cried for medication…
At last our government replied,
“Fill out your application…”

After many more months of waiting,
They wrote to say to me…
“Go pick up your pills and needles,
And we won’t charge a fee…

“They are very very costly,
We can’t give many out…
You should thank us your name was picked,
So handle with care, and please don’t pout…”

Test after test, and poke after poke,
Six long months of feeling ill…
The Dr says, “It didn’t work,
So stop the needle and the pill…”

Time is getting short,
And I am starting to worry…
The Dr says, “A transplant,
And we had better hurry…”

There are many many hours,
Of sleep that I have lost…
Worrying and wondering,
How much this will all cost…

Who will watch my children,
And love them like I do…
It sure won’t be our government,
They haven’t got a clue…

This is our government,
They tell me that they care…
At home with their families,
A healthy life they share…

Maids do their housework,
I struggle to do mine…
When it’s finally finished,
I’m much to tired to dine…

So never ever expect them,
To give you something free…
You will suffer to the end,
Please take it, from me…

Welcome to Passions! You have found a safe place, with welcoming arms, to be, to write, to think, to vent...

to receive prayers...

Welcome, and check your e-mail for a special message.

I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound.

Hi Koreen it's always great to meet a fellow Canuck. I know more than anyone what you're talking about. It's a sad situation when the government neglects the health of it's citizens. In this province they cut back more yearly and we're down to a skeleton medical care service. The people in the profession are so overworked that it's just pitiful. I sure hope they can do something for you soon.    Thanks for taking the time to write this poem. It's always good to express yourself over these travesties of medical service.

*sigh* I too am a fellow Canadian and understand your problem only too well. It is thought that we have a wonderful and free healthcare system in Canada and that is only because the truth is not told. The long waits and lack of good treatment. Doctors who don't give a hoot because if something goes wrong they know we can't do a thing about it. *sigh* I am so very sorry for the situation our country has put you in, dear one. My heart goes out to you. {{{BIG HUGS}}}Much love to you from me.

Love I leave with you my friend whether it be in your life or of yet the essense of your dreams.

Koreen - my heart goes out to you, and I am so glad to see this writing finally here.

I would not ever ask what I am about to, but I do ask the poets on 'Passions' to please reply to this writing....

Thank you all,

Koreen,

This is truly a sad piece.  Sometimes, through no fault of our own life deals us a bad hand.  All we can do is try to make the best of what we have been given and trust the Lord to see us through.  I hope you will continue to write.  It is a great way to heal.

Welcome to Passions.

Hi Koreen, I'm Corinne! Did you know that the name "Koreen" is very old? It was the name of a greek poet circa 500 a.d.

Anyway, I digress...

I enjoyed your poem, but was sorry to read about your Hep. C. My brother is also afflicted with this virus. I'm hoping that soon there will be a cure. It's a sad situation, I know only too well about the long term prognosis of those struck with this horrible virus.

Peace and prayers for you.

Corinne
