In clothes worn for days
half laying, half sitting
the stench of sweat
the stench of fear.
Quite contemplation takes hold
as your eyes scan
for that movement
one you silently hope against.
Boredom, exhaustion
the suttle way the wind
takes hold of the leaves
as the flutter by.
Sudden fits of sleep
within a nightmare
of absolute tranquil moments
that you remember from home.
Can you see her face,
looking back at you
through the dust of violence
in a land not your own.
The single crack of a bullet
brings you to autopilot
as find the target
and put it down.
Then the nightmare of time
the single one you cannot control
takes its place again
and you wait for the end.

They say that time heals all wounds, but perhaps it doesn't take away all memories.  Very profound.

oh, my, I wonder what it might be like if we could in fact slow time when desired and speed it up as well

it's all relative

we're told

of course, a time for slow for me would likely disagree with a time for such for you

so if we walked beside each other, would we not warp ourselves and our appendages

maybe life would look like a carnival mirror dressed in waves

MichaelG~
Vividly emotive.
The nightmare of many who have served.
May their nights be freed of the memories.

Deeply moving piece with the atmosphere of such terror well captured and points well taken!!   Thanks for sharing Michael!
