Filled with too much certainty,
the mist before me rose
In swirl, a pattern’s ancient map-
a memory of soul.

Surely just a trick of light-
mirror’d moon to dance on smoke?
Just a shadow’s slight-of–hand
with reasoning revoked.

Before my eyes a soldier grew-
dynamic art of air...
shifting shades of layered hue-
lines defined this man’s despair.

I watched him weary-trudge the road.
I saw him creep past sexton’s keep.
On into the sea of stones--
sparkled marble, white-too neat.

Rows and rows to boast of death,
but never did he raise his head.
His foot was sure upon the path,
without a pause, no sense of dread.

Then he stopped before a stone
no different than the others were.
In this dark forest of the bones,
somehow the man was sure.

He crossed himself beneath moonlight.
His sagging shoulders sagged.
Then he stooped and placed on grave
A luminescent flag.

A glowing tear beneath moonlight
slipped from eye in christening.
As he turned to me in smile,
I swear I heard a flap of wing.
Above his head a white dove swooped--
enwrapped the man protectively.
I watched them as they disappeared.
I knew he died for peace.

Karen this is amazing, awesome...
is there nothing you cant write about and NOT write it to poetic perfection
this gave me a chill...its hauntingly beautiful
you took the imagery and defined it with your gift of rhyme.
your talent as a writer is showcased in this very cool write.

Even if you dont want to speak tonite
It's alright
I'm sitting outside heaven's door

I'd like to thank everybody--Death, Mysteria,
2Dalimit,Sven, Kit, Sy, Karilea, Bernie, forever, Marge, the sweet JM, Charisma, Martie, and especially Sharon for giving me the visual to work with. This was a special one for me as I learned to work in a different way. I'd also like to thank the Balladeer for his obvious tutelage and influence...you've all been great! Love to you all...and happy memories I hope, for Memorial Day!
