Listening to every heart

cottonwood

if the cottonwood
got ten would’s
I’d shift and dart
‘round my cart
if I were
to pick
the seed
hold warm in hand
I could make
a swift demand
of cotton’s wood
of seed, I could

that ol’ seedy
cottonwood

have you ever held the
form
of cottonwood’s seed
of cotton’s warm
the trees that stand
to my south
go north in wind
I’m cottonmouth

but this night, this night
the dark is near
and something cool
and not quite clear
the cotton’s seed
is drifting south
a wind from north
leaves words
unrhymed

un-timed
de-rhymed
still, still, the
hold, sublime

cotton’s wood
of tall and grace
love the light
on morning’s face
shimmer, shake
a morning’s break

cotton’s wood
a warm embrace

in early morn
a shimmy shake
in later’s sun
a quiver’s quake
a cottonwood’s
delight come clear
a snowy morn
summer’s near

Pretty majestic both the tree and the poem.

I really loved the flow in this Karilea ... whimsical and just rolls of the tongue, much enjoyed!

Best wishes,

you are going to have to e-mail me some of this cotton wood, we don't have it here in Ireland.   really enjoyed the poem.

Kari dear heart, do you know how fabulous this is love. I don't know a cotton wood tree, but even so I can see them through your painting this is really an excellent poem.
