passing through review
soldiers in dress uniforms
march with precision
the honor guard presents arms
Old Glory in red white and blue

John Philip Sousa
stirs embers of fire’s passion
old eyes swell with pride
memories of battles fought
prayers for those who lie silent

tall and majestic
big as mountains vast as plains
rich in golden grain
the American spirit
a hymn to the republic

Watching those in uniform marching still brings tears to my eyes.
Knowing that so many have lost their loved ones so I could be free.
I am proud to be an American.

Well...I am not American, but if I were I would sure be proud when I read this poem.  The music brought to mind movies of American History, and I know the pridce of the American people, so well done poetess!

This is too good to be buried, up it goes to spotlight those that need to be in the spotlight on this day of recognition.

What a beautifully spoken and deeply moving tribute to all of those who sacrificed so much...many of them making the ultimate sacrifice of their lives...to give us the gift of freedom.  Thank you for sharing this lovely tribute..and I agree with Sharon...
it should be in the holiday spotlight!

Julian~
You've captured the spirit of memory in both your phrasing and the stirring march of John Philip Sousa.

His music never fails to stir my patriotism.
Thank you for sharing this lovely piece.
