*Gallery Reading Room*

I look in the mirror in the morning
hair a little unkempt, eyes tired and semi-opened
and, a thought crosses my still sleepy mind
"Is she really in love with me?"
me, the man for whom love has been something
that happens to other people, not me
me, the poet who knows the words
to the songs of the heart
but still sings them all alone
"Does she really love me?"

I put my hands on the sink,
letting the water run as I prepare for my day
splashing some of it on my face
trying to wake up, get myself ready for it
the shaving cream comes slowly out of the can
and, as I start to remove the night's growth,
I think about what she means to me
how much she makes me happy
how much she brings to my life
how she makes my heart dance with just
one smile from her bright face
yes, even how much she likes me
when I'm not at my best

but, I will ask the question
"Does she really love me?"
that's when I look in the mirror again
and I see her reflection behind my own
and she whispers in my ear
"I love you. . . :"

question answered. . .

Sven seems like the more we find ourselves caring for someone the more we become concerned that they care for us...hoping there feelings are the same...James

Ok, Sven...how do I get my own mirror?  It's going to be something deep and philosophical, isn't it?  You know, I'm not real fond of introspection.  Ha!

JLR, no, nothing so deep and philosophical. . . it's pretty simple. . . all you need is a mirror. . . and someone to look at it with you. . .

Paula, well, I'm not sure, as I haven't seen it myself. . . but I hope that it's as good as you say it is. . .thank you. . .

Maree, I'm glad that you enjoyed this. . . and I'm glad that you were able to see the tenderness, thank you my friend. . .

Sandra, I think that you've got one of these. . . thank you. . .

inot2B, well, like I said before, it's just a poem. . . but I hope that I can find someone nice to share it with. . . thank you. . .

Titia, not yet. . . but maybe someday. . . thank you for reading. . .

I know that mirror all too well, my friend
I love the realism of this piece... how you combine a simple daily ritual with a tender train of thought.. somehow, it makes the reflection in your mirror all that more real and powerful to the reader, especially the beautiful ending as your question is answered :-)

I've no doubt but that she does love you, my friend, for how could a woman not love such a gentle heart?  Well done, as usual.
