The paint is worn
from the pine stair treads
where he walked with his pipe
filling the air with wavering smoke
touched with sweet wood and vanilla

On the hall coat rack
hangs his favorite flannel shirt
with holes worn in the elbows
from leaning on the porch railing
while looking for his deer

His leather chair
with faded well used arms
still sits over in the corner
used only by his faithful dog
who seems to still be waiting

A real man

kisses his children goodnight

What a beautiful memory token to share. I read it over again. I love pipe smoke aromas... vanilla and sandlewood. interesting blend. visualized the fannel hanging on the wall. Once again, great mem-token.

let our hands communicate what's in our heart. A Wisp of a brush...

JBowie~
This is a tenderly nostalgic painting.
Vivid recall springs to mind.
Nice one, my friend.

This needs another round I think.
The beauty of this is that the simple things always take our hearts or minds and whirl with them. The flannel shirt with the holes painted a mixture of what you paint and some memory I have myself. Thank you for beauty. I miss your work.

This is wonderful work! May I ask if this is about  your father? It's the feeling I get from the tone. If so, what a great tribute. A great tribute in any case. Perfect imagry. You say so much, paint such a picture with so few words.

By the way, I get the whole "Maine" feeling from this piece.

I can't control
my destiny
I trust my soul,
my only goal
is just to "be"

You did this so well, I could almost smell "Green Sail" I think.  Sweet memories, oh how they warm the soul.  This was a lovely piece of writing.
