A Lesson In Life

I’ve lifted my eyes and fixed my gaze on the light
I’ll not turn again to be swallowed by despite
Fear and darkness can no more hold me down
No more sorrow, in my own tears I’ll not drown
The road ahead beckons on, towards hope I’ll go
Once more life’s river will carry me in its flow
Never more will I think of this time and place
I’ll look forward not backwards I’ll run my race

Life can be hard but I’ve learned my lesson well
Each time the wave breaks I’ll rise up and swell
No more bewailing the hard knocks and pain
And each time I stumble I’ll stand straight again
Now I’ll cast off despair and rise to meet the day
Greet and smile as I bathe in the suns warm ray
Take heed of advice don’t listen to others fears
Learn and understand the value of precious tears

I’ve come to thank you for teaching me all this
Shown me the value and the cost of your kiss
You think you’ve beaten me and made me cry
But its because I’ve understood pain I can fly
You thought you’d leave me all alone with fear
Thought I’d fail, that I’d simply go and disappear
I'm smiling as I'm rising on the road to find me
I’ll find real love not your counterfeits beauty

So I thank you for the lesson if not for the song
The tune was all right but your words were wrong
Once more my head I’ll lift as on my way I go
Taking my time to look I’ll keep the pace slow
You’re the loser here it’s me that’s won this race
I'm not bowed or beaten take a look at my face
But before I leave you I want you to hear this
If you want love don’t live by deceptions kiss
