A Map Of The World

He locked me in irons
And threw out the key.
You broke chains that held me,
Setting me free.

He caged me with cruelty;
Left me to die.
You healed broken wings
And taught me to fly.

He fed me his lies
Till I withered, was doomed.
You nourished my soul
And watched as I bloomed.

He judged me unjustly.
You pardoned the crime.
He put me away.
You served out the time.

He reached out to strike me,
His temper unfurled.
He said I’d go nowhere;
You gave me a map of the world.

I'm feeling a little homesick today so I borrowed my brothers computer to come home for a while. When I think back, I can't help but be amazed at the changes that have taken place in my life over the last 2 1/2 years or so and I just wanted to thank you all for helping to make me what and who I am today. Thank you for your kindness, your support, your love and your prayers, but most of all...thank you for giving me a map of the world and the courage to realize I can go anywhere my heart takes me. It's great to be home...love you all
Ruth

hey Hoot-girlie......
this is a beautiful sincere gift...
and encompasses the true gift of this place
we heal in the poetry and each others company
the quiet comfort knowing we are all connected by the common bond of poetry.
Ocean, mountains and equators fall away
and we can all touch.
Always good to see you come back home sweet poet.

We wish ourselves beautiful,
we cry in the night.
Its not the love you fear ...
its the fall from the height.

This is home isn't it, good to see you, Ruth, you are one of the best!

I thoroughly enjoyed this, it is so captivating.

Hi Mrs. Kephart
So nice to see you back home Ruth, even if it is just temporary. Hope you and Rodger are hooked up to the 'Net soon. Thank you for the poem....you and I don't know each other very well, but I'm glad that Passions was able to help with healing your wings. You take care now and hopefully you'll be back home for good soon!

Oh, my, what you have been through!  I've only seen a few of your poems, so I have no idea of your poetic growth, but it soundsl like you yourself are quite strong and sound in your being.  So happy for you!

Heaven knows I don't get in here often enough any more, but something told me I didn't want to miss this one. And something was right.

Even in your absence, Ruth, your presence is still felt and your muchly deserved happiness always shared. Home, after all, is that place no one ever really leaves.
