The Young to Very Old

At times feeling like I don't understand,
this patriotic measure close at hand...
A man,
A gun,
A war ensues...
Seems a patheticly saddened way to pay our dues.

Family times held close at memories insistance,
While spouse is forced to love from a distance...
A letter,
A poem,
A forever love you...
Catches tears prematurely through desired hue.

Devotedly brave are the many that today we salute,
As everyday this country is blessed with new recruits...
A soldier,
A hero,
A life on hold...
To honor and protect us... The young to very old.

Sometimes we have to follow a stronger voice, even if it's silent.

The price that is paid to maintain our freedom is very high. God bless them all. Great tribute, Gloria, and so nice to see you again!

Oh, Ria...I'm so glad I had a chance to read this beautiful poem! You have said it so well, the terrible price that was paid for our freedom. Love, Ellie

excellent. . . but still. . . the price that must be paid. . . too high??

perhaps. . . but then, where would we be today without that payment??

well done. . .

many have died in the name of progress, and while I do not argee with the measures often taken in those times never the less the poem is a fitting tribute to those who laid down their lives for our way of life.

"across the unfair divide
where black will never meet white
so read my token lips
like they never exist"
