Listening to every heart

Cornflowering Hope

now that you have
come,
to join your brother,
it is good that
you have arrived
in late spring, just
before the summer’s
heat

I am amazed
by you,
easier you came,
less weary am I,
more able to enjoy
your sweet fingers
and toes
and cornflowering
blue eyes…

for they were my gift
when first I came here,
a small bouquet
left on the door’s
threshold,
that first May that
celebrated my first
year of arrive,

ever since,
praying for a
daughter to lift my
heart,
and if she had
cornflowering blue
eyes,

my prayers were heard

I note your birth
1870, the bible
will hold it,

and it is acknowledged
with head bowed…

it hasn’t been a simple
life, but scored and
underlined,

in hope
the Indians will
allow us the peace
we need to just
plant the seed to raise
the crops

my heart seizes each time
their calls echo through
the land

in silence they come
to watch
and wait

I feel their need to have
us return to where we
belong

but he won’t go

my dear sweet babe,
rest your cornflowering
blue eyes and I shall
hold you
close to my breast,

and we shall pray
together,

that the Indian
and our family
shall live,
side by side

to see the cornflowers
of the years to come

I too thoroughly enjoyed this romp through history, and I hope many cornflowers grew!  Lovely story Sunshine, as only you can weave them.

you tell these stories so well. . . I'm reading one a day, if you don't mind. . . just to let them soak in before I move on to the next one. . .
