The smell of sawdust shavings greet me
As I walk in through the door
How sad am I in knowing
I won't see your face here anymore

Such a craftsman you were
In your carpentry trade
So many beautiful things
From your skilled hands were made

This shed it was your refuge
A place where you spent many days
Now it seems so empty and quiet
It's like the sun has lost its rays

The tools you once worked with
Now lay forlorn amongst the dust
So many of your favourite tools
With time now have begun to rust

Your woodturning machine now lays dormant
Out of use now for over two years
The stool where you once sat remains empty
And the glass of the window is not clear

Smells of oil and timber now linger
In this place that we called your second home
And I take great comfort in knowing
That in this place your spirit still roams

Oh, this one really got me.
I've had the same feeling whenever I came into my fathers room. He was an artist and I spent so many hours just sitting there watching him draw and paint and sculpture.

You 'painted' the picture so well, thank you.

Sue, I very much enjoyed this work.  Being a plumber, I can so relate to working with my hands, and with tools.  I am glad it gives you comfort to have this place to go.  Roger

Sue,

As you know, I am also a woodworker, so I can relate to this very well.  A craftman's tools are always kept in good repair and at the ready.  From speaking with you, I know your father was an exceptional man.  A very good write here, my friend.

It is sad to think that the tangible things that our loved ones surrounded themselves with, can live on after they are gone.  But they can be a comfort also.  Joyce

Sue, this was exceptional, but I think his spirit is in more places than in that room, as you have spoken of him often, I feel I almost know him, and his spirit of course carries on in you!

This so much could have been the feelings of my half-aunt after her father, my step-grandpa died.  Powerfully woven, Suetang!

Sue, I am moved by your words.  We so often write about our Mother's and the Father's of the world seem lost.  My Dad was what people called a "cobble jockey"  he could make something out of nothing.  His work shop was stripped the day after he died by my brothers.  To this day, I mourn for his tac hammer.  Isn't that dumb!  I just wanted you to know that I envy you his work shop.  Very beautiful words you shared with us,  ME

I want to thank each and every one of you for what you wrote....your words moved me. My Dad's shed was his pride and joy and it where he weaved his craft so beautifully.  To this day I have trouble going in there without being reduced to tears but I have so many fond memories of him sitting in there doing what he loved.  Thank you so much..Sue

Woodworking is my hobby and I truly enjoyed your piece.  I think I know how he felt in his shop and I am glad you feel it is hallowed ground.  I could smell the scent of wood in your work

I am so pleased you could relate to this and my Dad's shed remains pretty much as it was before he died two years ago.  I feel his presence there more than anywhere else when I visit the family home......Sue
