I lie quietly in bed
Slowly slipping in and out
Of a state of consciousness
As the world moves on
Unaware of my plight

I try many times
To get my eyes to focus
They cooperate for a moment
Before the world becomes fuzzy
Until I close them and give up

I drift back to sleep
Where I visit another world
Here, dreams are my reality
I become anointed in their beauty
Taking solace in their presence

I am instantly given
The keys to success
Courage, strength, honor
Friendship, loyalty, faith
And forgiveness bathe me

I close my weary eyes
Breathing in their essence
They fill my empty heart
With their saving grace
Comforting me on my journey

Alas, I open my eyes
As the room is flooded
In warm, bright sunlight
My eyes focus immediately
As I begin anew today

All writing comes

this is an excellent poem, but it begs the question: what's the forgiveness for? (not asking, just pointing it out) i can only wish that i had dreams like yours, wolf, for mine are murky, crawling things, filled with darkness and screams. you, however, seem like you really have a good time at night

it's a lovely poem, Jennifer, and forgiveness?  Well, we all struggle with that for ourselves as well as others...I took it generally....loved this.

M_E:  Thank you, I think I am up to it also.  I always love a good challenge!!

Napalm:  Welcome and thanks for reading.  The forgiveness is because we all need to learn how to forgive in order to move on.  Life is full of instances where we feel wronged for one reason or another.  Irish Rose is right, it is a general thing really.

Kathleen:  Forgiveness is indeed a struggle, but once we learn to forgive our lives become better for it.  Thank you for the compliments.
