I Trust You Fearfully

by Michael

I trust you fearfully,
for many times I’ve seen
a lie bring death
and slay the truth.

Too many hands
held mine,
now hold no more.

Alone,
I stand on firmer ground,
trusting in myself,
still healing from betrayal.

Abandoned,
each tear
is guarded closely
that it not fall.

The heart closes,
my hands no longer reach,
as I walk the nights
in solitude’s soft whispers.

Though lonely,
under starlight’s soft caress,
I am safe from lies.

Michael...not sure if I understood the intent, but I do love the ironic title--reminding me so much of the way I think sometimes...I couldn't help but feel spiritual overtones (or is that undertones?--YA SEE?) lol....(and can ya tell trust is an issue with me?) Love your work...especially when it turns me inside out thinking like this...   thank you!

Michael, I know this too well myself and now they have to earn my trust, it is sad that people "turn" but such is life, and we learn from this to be careful on who we hand our heart to in the future.  This was so well said, and the insight in this poem is incredible.  Wonderfully done.

Joy just met the wrong people, search for the good ones, they really are out there you know.

Great poem.

serenity,
I thank you for reading this piece and the sweet compliment on my work.  There are no spiritual undertones in this.  However, upon reading it once more I can certainly see how you came to that conclusion.  Take care.

Kathleen,
Clinging is a good thing, but because we're human beings we need other people around us to help keep us emotionally healthy, don't you think?  Thank you

SEA,
Thank you for reading and for the "excellent."

Lady In White,
All I write is what my heart feels and all hearts "feel" pretty much the same, I think.  Thank you

Lauren,
Thank you, my friend.  In truth, my heart is opening and my hands are beginning to reach out again in trust, though I do so fearfully, as I must.

Elizabeth Anne,
Simply put, you say amazing things.    Thanks

Sharon,
I tend to trust much too easily, so when I get hurt I really have no one to blame but myself.  Thank you, my friend

Titia,
Yes, they certainly are and I know quite a few.  By the way, I think your name is pretty.  Not flirting, just being honest.  Thanks.

rosepetals,
Thank you.  It pleases me much that you like this.
