I was at home,
down deep in some loam,
when I was grabbed,
fingered, got nabbed.
I started to squirm,
but I'm just a worm,
Can't really fight,
No teeth which to bite,
I became bait,
fish food my fate,
pierced with a hook,
thrown out in a brook,
found myself swimming,
prospects were dimming,
here comes a carp,
fishhooks are sharp,
let out a scream,
fell off in the stream,
took out for shore,
fish bait no more,
was swimming so fast,
my head was soon passed,
was I coming or going?
I was not knowing,
But I didn't care,
for fishhook was bare,
was quite a fright,
for a poor hermaphrodite,
who now is back home,
down deep in some loam.

The Fisherman (or as the worm squirms)

I was a wishin'
To go a fishin'
Got me a pole,
Away I stole,
Down to the crick'
Ran in a lick,
Found me a worm,
And did he squirm,
Worm felt the hook,
Gave me a look,
I said to him,
It's sink or swim,
He swam,
Damn,
My hook was bare,
Worm was not there,
Lost my bait,
Getting late,
No fishin'
No wishin'
No worm,
No squirm,
He swam,
Damn.

I'm a fisherman. Often wondered why if worms don't feel - as fisherman are lead to believe - they squirm when hooked !  I stopped using live bait many years ago. Only use artificial lures now.  Also glad worm got away. Delitefull verse. Also practice CPR - Catch - Picture - Release

Loved this.  I carefully put the worm back when I accidently dig one up when gardening.  Of course the robins have no such qualms.  I realy liked this. Joyce

I loved this!  And I love fishing and also practice CPR, (love that expression).  I am sending this to a fisherwoman in the blue pages who will love this!

How often that fisherman I was, but I've another side too, I also put them back in the soil of my garden if they're in my way.

Makes me think I didn't go fishing for a long time, must go again before I loose my grip   won't use worms anymore, they got a face now

my worms
always squirmed
even if I said
please
so I got smart
and took to heart
the attributes
of cheese!
