Can you see the political satire in this? It relates to Christmas and Easter too :-)

Sonnet XXIX

So here we are, the day of hearts,
To honor saintly Valentine.
So couple's love tastes sweet as wine,
Two entwined, ne'r be torn apart.
He spends his pay to buy her gifts
Expression of his love for her.
And she of his true love returns
With passion kisses, Joy uplifts.
This passion be but illusion,
For come morrow the pain returns,
The flame within their path still burns
To end this day of delusion.
And so it goes this cycle of ferver,
The fight continues, save one day each year.
